Occupational safety and health
Employees are the greatest asset of Mercuries F&B. We are committed to creating a safe and healthy workplace, and have established an occupational safety and health management system and related rules and documents in accordance with the law. We regularly review and improve the work environment and actively prevent occupational accidents.
Occupational safety and health management system
At Mercuries F&B, we have established the Occupational Safety and Health Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “OSH Committee”), the highest decision-making unit for occupational safety and health. The Committee members include the general manager, occupational safety and health management personnel, department heads, and labor representatives (accounting for more than one-third of committee members according to legal standards). The Committee meets once a quarter, and the Occupational Safety, with the Occupational Safety and Health Office reporting the implementation status of the Committee at the meeting. The contents of the report include the status and progress of occupational safety and health management, review of various occupational safety and health management plans and proposals, and the joint development of safety and health improvement measures. Workers include relevant personnel who perform work activities under each company’s control, including employees of the head office, restaurants, building managers, suppliers, and contractors.
In terms of obtaining international management system certification, the ISO 45001 Occupational Safety and Health Management System was introduced in May 2021, and each unit selects seed personnel to serve as the safety and health contact. The employees’ safety awareness and implementation ability are improved through education and training. Finally, we ensure the effective operation of the system through internal and external audits to implement the PDCA cycle of management. In 2022, we obtained the ISO 45001 certification from a third-party organization for the first time, and the renewal was completed in December 2023.
Occupational safety and health education and training
Internal Occupational Safety and Health Education and Training
Each year, based on the annual management objectives and statistics on the types of occupational injuries and diseases, the annual occupational safety and health education and training are planned. At Mercuries F&B, we are committed to rooting the concepts of workplace safety and health into the work of employees. In 2023, we held 807 general safety and health education and training seminars and 9 occupational health promotion seminars, with a total of 5,502 participants.
For non-employees with workplaces are under the Company’s control, such as contractors and subcontractors, they are required to include the occupational safety and health education and training certificates of workers joining the workplace and legally required licenses such as qualified occupational safety and health management personnel licenses or specialized operator licenses. They must provide hazard warnings and explain the workplace environment and potential operational hazards to workers before they join company operations. By doing this, we achieve the effects of occupational safety and health education and training.
External Occupational Safety and Health Education and Training
In terms of license management for occupational safety and health personnel in our restaurants, we perform an audit on the conformality of allocation of the legal OSH personnel and first aid personnel in restaurants every year. This is done so in accordance with the “Occupational Safety and Health Management Regulations”, “Labor Health Protection Rules”, “Occupational Safety and Health Education and Training Rules” and other applicable laws and regulations. The Company arranges for training and follow-up training where necessary. The number of employees participating in external education and training in 2023 is as follows. A total of NTD 470,080 was spent in training.
Emergency response education and training
Mercuries F&B regularly organizes emergency response training, and jointly organizes fire drills and fire equipment use drills with the fire station to achieve the goal of emergency response education and training. In 2023, the central kitchen, headquarters, and restaurants held relevant drills so that employees were able to receive the correct concept of escape to protect the safety of life and property of the company and individuals.
Occupational health care
Pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Mercuries F&B has formulated and implemented the four major labor health protection plans. We have an infirmary and lactation room and other health care facilities in the Company. Moreover, health care workers (referred to as “occupational nurses”) and on-site physicians are also assigned in accordance with the law.
Every year, the infirmary collaborates with medical facilities approved by the Ministry of Labor for employee health checkups, which are conducted in accordance with laws and regulations. High-risk employees are screened out through the health check report abnormality and risk assessment approach, and then they are arranged to meet with on-site physician for face-to-face or telephone health consultation. Recommendations are provided on labor duty adjustments to implement primary disease prevention and health guidance. The abnormal work overload assessment questionnaire and the ergonomic musculoskeletal questionnaire are also conducted simultaneously with the annual health checkup. According to the grading system, (graded into levels 0 to 2) high-risk employees, and those who have reached level 2 colleagues are arranged to meet with a physician for ongoing care.
For contractor or sub-contractor personnel, the “Contractor Management Procedures” require manufacturers to verify the physical health of the workers before dispatching them to enter the site. They must confirm that the workers have completed health checkups (including those for special operations), purchased labor insurance, health insurance and other relevant insurance or joined labor unions to ensure the safety and rights of workers. Employees are also welcome to seek assistance from the infirmary if they feel unwell or require health consultation at work. The Company is committed to ensuring that both employees and non-employees in the workplace are properly looked after.
